Kista Folk High School

Kista folkhögskola/Folk High School is situated in Kista in the northernmost district of Stockholm. Kista’s position in the fields of telecommunication systems and wireless systems in particular is unique as one of the world’s largest and most important clusters for companies in IT-Communications-Technology with close to 500 international companies, several research institutes and schools.

Kista folkhögskola is the latest feature in Swedish Folkbildning. ‘Folkbildning’ is the Swedish collective name for activities conducted by Folk High Schools and Study Associations. These activities are in the form of courses, study circles and cultural activities as a part of liberal (i.e. free from detailed governmental control, freedom to develop the content and direction of the courses) adult non-formal and voluntary educational system. Swedish folkbildning is largely financed through state grants and activities of folkbildning focus on:

- strengthen and develop democracy

- make it possible for people to influence their life situation and create participative involvement in societal development

- bridge educational gap and raise the level of education and cultural awareness in society

- broaden the interest for and increase participation in cultural life

Kista Folk High School’s educational program is open to everyone, specially focusing on the Swedish Muslim community with the endeavour to create conditions for a secure and empowered Swedish Muslim identity and contributing to the democratic development of the Swedish society. As Sweden’s first Folk High School with Muslim background our overall objectives are FOLKBILDNING, CITIZENSHIP and FAITH.

Kista folkhögskola offers General course, General course secondary level and General course upper secondary level and a variety of short and special courses as well. Kista folkhögskola´s Summer Academy offers short courses such as Health and Nutrition, Parenting, Democracy, Islam, Arabic, Quran workshop, Media workshop, Art and Craftwork & Film - Motion Picture. Our IT Academy provides different courses within the Microsoft IT Academy program.

In the context of Local Development Kista folkhögskola is cooperating with a variety of institutions and organisations.
